• The obvious winner In the numbers game was Daf, retaining its leadership with a volume increase of 5.4% to take 18.6% of the market over 3.5 tonnes. But more impressively, Renault VI sales soared by 30.9%; Scania went up by 19.4%; and MAN by 15.0%. Dennis did well too, increasing its sales from 396 to 497 units; an increase of 25.5%.
In some sectors the changes were even more remarkable: Scania increased its sales of 4x2 rIgids by no less than 54%. Sales of 7.5-tonners have not suffered from the changes to driving licensing, and the buoyant construction sector boosted two and three-axle rigid sales by 8.9% and 2.3% respectively.
Tractive unit sales were up by 3.0%, with Scania leading the two and three-axle sectors, but there was a significant move from 4x2 units (down 13%) to three-axle tractors (up 12%).
