• The recent controversy over speed limiters has left myself and my other EC travelling colleagues chuckling. We've had speed limiters for many years now, they are fully automatic and work as soon as the tyre rubber touches a foreign shore. They require no maintenance, fitting or calibration. They not only control speed, but hours worked and breaks taken; total control of the tacho and its regulations. My speed limiter is free and lasts a life time; those who abuse it normally don't last very long.
What is this wonder of reinforcement agencies? Why nothing more simple than a heavy on-the-spot fine. In addition to this I believe will be a 50mph overall speed limit and a 40 tonne gross vehicle weight — all by the end of 1993.
Don't forget very few tachos show 55mpli so the Government will have to reduce the speed limit to 50mph. Don't worry — you soon get used to it.
