York's trailer range has been reviewed and revised to cater for likely legislation changes. In all the categories—vans, platforms, and skeletals—a new model designed for 38 tonnes (37.4 tons) gross has been introduced.
These new models are designed for an 11.5-ton load through the kingpin and are fitted with tandem suspension which is plated for 22 tonnes (21.6 tons) for a payload of up to 27.4 tonnes (27 tons).
The Lodeck platform range has had several new features incorporated. The frame and the suspension will be standard for both overseas and home markets. The new look Lodeck features a characteristic double kink in the main rail which has been introduced to maximise neck strength while retaining maximum swing clearance and a minimum neck depth of 203mm (8in). The cross-member spacing is reduced to 400mm (15in) for added floor strength.
Another change to both the trailer and van range is the introduction of a new European suspension (ES). The ES system has been tested in Europe over the past 18 months and now replaces the existing IS as standard equipment. York claims that the ES has been designed for minimum weight with maximum strength. It is available in single, tandem and tri-axle form and in both conventional and underslung configurations. articulation is = 23 to keep load transfer to a minimum.
A new "double pinchbolt" radius rod has been designed to maintain accurate axle alignment which is a cause of considerable tyre scrub. Goodyear claims that a misalignment of 3mm ('kin) can result in a 20 per cent reduction in tvre life. The new springs are 90mm (3iin) wide and they have been introduced to increase roll stability.
The Hobo lifting axle system has been specified on such a large percentage of orders that it is to become part of the standard specification for York trailers. Hub odometers will be fitted as standard to both axles of Hobo trailers.
The lightweight castellated York frame is retained for the SL 34 and SL 38 models only.
