claims it can save hauliers 5% on their fuel bills, thereby negating the impact of this year's fuel duty increase.
Launching its fuel economy package of diesel fuel and lubricants, Shell cites trials conducted in Hamburg, which revealed average fuel consumption benefits of 4% on motorways and A-roads, and 7% in towns.
The tests also showed a significant reduction in particulates emissions.
The company plans a series of UK operational trials to back up its claims.
The package consists of: new formula Shell Advanced Diesel; Rimula Ultra 5W/30 fully-synthetic engine oil; Retinax LX2 grease; and Spirax ASX and GSX fully-synthetic axle and gear oils.
Shell UK's transport market manager Ashley Proctor says: "A fuel saving of between 5-6% will be achieved through the use of these products—equiva lent to £817 a year for a 38tonne vehicle travelling 120,000km a year."
