FOR this year's Autumn Illuinina-bons, Blackpool Town Council has decided to make an order that all traffic shall proceed along the Promenade from south to north, instead of from north to south as in the past.
When the matter came up for discussion, Councillor A. Whiteside, a local coach owner, objected to any change being made. Last year, he said, there were 2,000 motor vehicles waiting at the north end for the lights to go on, and he di,d not know what it would be like if they had them waiting at the south end.
Further, hundreds upon hundreds of operators had their licences endorsed for "north to south" and they would have to send them back to the Traffic Commissioners to have them re-endorsed, if the change was made.
MORE TROLLEYBUSES FOR NE WCASTLE .
• "r‘VO more routes in Newcastle-on1 Tyne are to be converted to trolleybuses. They are the routes from the Osborne Road terminus and Fenham terminus to the Central railway station. These routes are at present served by trams, which will continue in operation for a time, after the change-over.
A QUICK MOVE IN LEICESTER.
FOLLOWING the acceptance by the 1City Council of its recommendation that the city's tramways system be scrapped and oil buses substituted, Leicester Transport Committee has moved quickly.
The committee has decided to recom
mend to the council the scrapping immediately of the King Richard's Road tram route, which is due for renewal, and the employment of oilengined buses. The committee recommends the acquisition of nine buses for the purpose at a cost of 420,000.
