TWO British lorry-mounted cranes are now being prduced by Lyka Ernes Ltd of Blackpool Road, Preston.
With maximum lifting capacities of 3.55 tonnes the cranes are based on the designs of the Danish Lyka Crane Company.
Over the last three years these Danish built cranes have been test marketed in Britain, and it has now been decided to concentrate on the two best sellers, the 5.5. and the 7.
Lyka believes mat lorry mounted cranes will gain greater acceptance in the UK, especially as the price of pallets has risen so greatly during the last few years.
Pallets now cost around 05 each compared with 90p two years ago, which Lyka says represents a large capital outlay.
A 3.55 tonne (3.5ton) crane costs around £2,850, while the larger model costs £3,500. Both, says Lyka, obviate the need for pallets.
Maximum lift at greatest reach of the 5.5. is 1 ton at 5m (17ft), and the 7 will lift the same load at 7m (23ft)-radius.
A variety of lifting devices can be fitted to either crane, including a grab for bricks or a timber grab. Lyka has a nationwide network of 18 service agents all of whom can service and fit the company's equipment.
