FORD Transcontinental 3424 models are being fitted with the turbocharged NTC 250E Cummins engine, replacing the naturally aspirated 252 unit, from today.
The 252, which was built in America, has ceased production and the new engine will be supplied from Cummins' Shotts plant.
Although the maximum power output of the 250E engine is the same as for the naturally aspirated engine (179kw or 240bhp) — it is produced at 1,950rpm, which is 150rpm less.
The maximum torque of 1,040Nm (760111ft) at 1,359rpm represents an 8.6 per cent increase and again this is produced at 50 less rpm.
With the introduction of the 14 litre (754cuin) NTC 250E, all Transcontinental engines are now from the same family.
