iT is net long ago that maximum-load goods vehicles in the 30 m.p.h. class could not be supplied with tipping gear. To-day 5-ton hydraulic tippers, weighing unladen under zi tons, are available, and the claim is made by the Spenborough Engineering Co., Ltd., Ileckmondwike, Yorkshire. that it produces the lightest power-hydraulic tipping gear of 5-6 tons capacity on the market.
Such an apparatus, as fitted to a long-wheelbase 5-ton vehicle, weighs only 2 cwt. For example, the company now offers a 6-cubic yd. body with power-hydraulic gear, on the MorrisCommercial Equi-Load long 5-tonner, the whole weighing under 50 cwt. This model of the Spenborough gear is listed as type EP46 and costs £46. It is suitable for a variety of other longwheelbase chassis.
With a view to minimizing maintenance and ensuring a high degree of reliability, all pressure oil piping is of solid-drawn steel tube, with leak-proof
flexible joints, whilst the pump is coupled direct to the power-take-oft. Provision is made for operation of the tipping mechanism when the chassis is distorted, as on uneven ground.
The concern also manufactures a wide range of hand gears, of both screw and hydraulic types, and for end, side and three-way tipping.
