• Mercedes will drop its sixlitre in-line six-cylinder engine from the 814 LN2 truck chassis when it launches its Euro-2 engine range.
The move will rationalise Mercedes' 7.5-tonner engine line-up. The 814 uses the naturally-aspirated 0M366 engine, found turbocharged in the 817 and 1817. The 814D T2 7.5tonne van chassis uses the
lighter charge-cooled four-cylinder, four-litre 0114364LA which produces the same 100kW (134hp) but more torque than the naturally-aspirated six.
Sionce the charge-cooled fours by Iveco Ford and MAN, Mercedes will fit the 0M364LA engine in the LN2 when it introduces its Euro-2 engines. This will bring an overdue and welcome increase in payload for the 814, with the potential for improved fuel economy.
