A decade of expansion
2001: William Stobart leaves Eddie Stobart to become a shareholder director in Andrew Tinkler's rail-based infrastructure engineering business WA Developments.
• Company now has 1,000 vehicles; 2,200 staff; 27 depots and turnover is £150m.
2004: WA Developments acquires Eddie Stobart. Edward Stobart leaves company. Andrew Tinkler becomes chief executive officer and William Stobart is chief operating officer.
2006: Stobart adopts new vehicle wrap livery.
• The first Stobart rail freight service is launched.
2007: Stobart Group becomes listed on the London Stock Exchange via a reverse takeover of Westbury Property • Stobart acquires O'Connor Group, which includes its Widnes railhead and container handling facility.
2008: Stobart Group acquires James Irlam & Sons and later the chilled operation of Innovate Logistics is bought out of administration.
• Stobart acquires Southend airport.
• The Group acquires the rail infrastructure business of WA Developments. 2009: Stobart Rail launches service linking Valencia in Spain to the UK,
• Carlisle airport is acquired.
2010: Stobart goes into biomass development with AW Jenkinson.
• Stobart orders 800 new Scania R-Series trucks.
• Fleet size stands at 1,850 tractor units. Warehousing now over 6 million ft2. 5,500 staff work at more than 40 sites.
