• Fines totalling £170 were imposed on three drivers employed by I J Blakey Haulage when they admitted drivers' hours offences before the Hull magistrates. A fourth driver was given an absolute discharge while charges against a further eight drivers were adjourned until November and allegations that the company permitted drivers' hours offences were adjourned until a date to be fixed.
Edward Leadley was fined £65 after admitting five offences of exceeding the continuous and daily driving limits. John Elson was fined £80 after admitting three offences of exceeding the daily driving limit and three offences of failing to keep a record.
A fourth charge of exceeding the daily driving limit was dismissed after Elson claimed that he had been held up because of an accident on the motorway.
John O'Donnell was fined £25 after admitting two offences of exceeding the daily driving limit and Keith Barlow was given an absolute discharge for failing to take a weekly rest period.
He told the magistrates that he had driven his vehicles to the company's base for repair on the seventh day after discovering a gearbox fault.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of a fifth driver, Alfred Moore, after he failed to appear to answer a charge of falsifying a tachograph chart. He also faces three allegations of exceeding the daily driving limit.
