for testing were technically identical in specification. Both were 13.6m-long triaxle curtainsiders. with fixed double-deck platforms running along the stepframe to the landing legs: from there to the front it's just one deck. Both run on 265/70R19.5 wheels and ROR running gear.
The aerodynamic sloping roof drops to 4,200mm for its bulkhead, and reduces the headroom on the trailer, The tractor unit that pulled both trailers on this test is a 2006registered Mercedes-Benz Actros 2646 with twin-tanks and Megaspace cab and, for those who remember them, analogue tachograph.
We ran a typical trunking route, taking in A-road and motorway. The A-road consisted of the A38 from Huthwaite over the M1 J28 to Derby, around the roundabout at Little Easton and back to the motorway, covering 46km.
At J28, we headed northbound on the M1 before using the roundabout at J30 and returning to the start point at Huthwaite. The motorway section covered 46km. The total route took in 92km and the trailers ran empty.
