WEST MIDLANDS PTE has been given council approval for i Om plans to buy 160 Metro-Cammell Weymann Metrobt double-deckers.
This follows earlier objections (CM, March 22) to buy 35 Scottish-built Volvo B55 double-deckers, in view of problems affecting availability of the Leyland Titan and its simpler B45 offshoot.
Councillors were determined that the new buses should be assembled in the West Midlands, and felt th. there was insufficient lac content in the Alexande bodied Volvos.
The PTE overcame earlii objections to buying foreig by pointing out that bot models have similar foreig content; Voith gearboxes I the MCWs and Volvo engin( in the B55s.
