SMITHS INDUSTRIES' motor accessories division have standardised on the Portescap Vibrograf B200 watch and clock movement timing machine to check tachograph clocks. Such checks must be made before installation and thereafter at six-monthly intervals.
The Vibrograf B200 is plugged into a mains supply (or a DC invertor if the vehicle's battery is being used), and a special electronic microphone sensor probe is placed on the face of the tachograph just over the clock mechanism. The Vibrograf then automatically measures the clock's timing accuracy.
Portescap (UK) Ltd are at 204 Elgar Road, Reading RG2 ODD.
