THE Common Market Commission has sent to the Council of Ministers a proposal about the harmonization of arrangements for the free mtry of fuel in the tanks of commercial vehicles.
It has already been decided to align these free entry conditions within the EEC by January 1 next year, and Italy and the Benelux countries already allow it.
But in order to reduce the difficulties of an immediate adjustment of the stricter regulations in France and Germany, an intermediary stage beginning on January 1 next has been fixed during which up to 200 litres of fuel will be admitted free.
These measures will assist commercial vehicles which cross between member States, a practice which is growing as intra-Community trade expands. The latest proposal will go to the economic and social committee of the Community, and to the European Parliament, for consultation.
