• Lobbying group East Anglian Hauliers, which held a high-profile reception for MPs last month, has been invited to a meeting with Labour MP Gwyneth Dunwoody to discuss the crippling effects of high fuel prices on industry.
The group, including Paul Newton from Horley Motors and Ralph Morton from Felixstowe, will be speaking to her on 2 September. Newton is pleased about getting a hearing with Dunwoody, who chairs the Transport Select Committee, but hopes to meet the full committee at a later date.
Newton says. "We would like a statement from the Government with a timetable of when it will be addressing our problems."
About 30 MPs turned out to July's reception where views on unfair competition from foreign hauliers were aired.
