Exclusive!
OUR SCOOP PHOTOS show prototypes of the jointly developed new Mercedes Sprinter and Volkswagen LT vans and chassiscabs, spotted undergoing secret testing ahead of the planned launch in 2006.
Mere and VW collaborated on the previous-generation Sprinter and LT; in 2002 they decided to repeat that process. These pictures show the project is gathering pace — and they reveal some of the styling differences between the two marques.
The Sprinter appears to feature 'softer' front-end styling, while the VW has a more truck-like grille and headlight arrangement While the front grille styling has been changed to incorporate bigger engines and an increased cooling pack. the door profile and van body remains virtually unchanged. Inside, however, we expect a wholesale revision with a new dash and trim materials.
Both vehicles will he available as vans and chassis-cabs; the sixstud wheels on the chassis-cab indicates a maximum GVW of up to 6.5 tonnes.
