• A leading member of an extremist animal rights group behind recent attacks on hauliers' meat trucks has quit the RSPCA's ruling council.
Robin Webb, a spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front, resigned from the council just before a bid was made to expel him. However, he remains a member of the RSPCA.
