• The Scottish Office's requirement for on-board weighers to be fitted to salt and grit spreaders used on primary routes has led PM On Board and Econ Engineering to develop software linking the two.
Econ's SCAM (Spreader Computer Aided Management) System, which monitors and records spreader output, is now integrated with PM's Waste weigh: it is said to be suitable for any make of chassis.
Material weights are measured to within a claimed 0.5% (this typically equates 50kg on a full load).
Gwynedd County Council has also taken a combined system; Econ believes that all English and Welsh authorities and contractors will decide to follow this lead.
