• One of the most important pieces of new law set to be introduced in Ireland is to make consignors liable for overloaded vehicles. They face fines of f1,000 under new laws being drafted by the Irish Department of Transport for introduction early next year.
Police will have the power to detain overloaded vehicles until a summons is served, normally within 24 hours. Foreign trucks will be included and consignors will not be
compensated .
for loads that PPE' are late or spoiled. Trucks will not usually be released until fines are paid.
