Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW tractor with Scammell coupling and brake gear has been added to the Thornyeroft range of

Nippy Star chassis. The tractor can be supplied with either the Thorny croft 3.86-litre four-cylindered petrol engine or a Thornyeroft 4.14-litre six' cylindered oil engine.

The former develops 68 b.h.p. at 2,600 r.p.m. and a maximum torque of 163 lb.-ft.-at 1.500 r.p.m., and the latter 61i b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m., and a maximum torque of 174 lb.-ft. at 1,300 r.p.m.

The drive is taken through a I2-in. dry-plate clutch to a four-speed gear box and thence by an open propeller shaft to a spiral-bevel-driven rear axle. The tyres on the front wheels are 32 by 6 in. with 7.00-20 in. 10-ply twin tyres at the rear.

Two leading shoe hydraulically operated brakes are employed on the tractor, which has 14-in.diameter brake drums. The trailer brakes are vacuum-servo operated in conjunction with an exhauster fitted on the engine.

Independent operating of the trailer brakes is provided by a hand lever with slip-link connection. Standard equipment includes 12v. lighting and starting, with a

78-amp.-hr. battery and 120w, constantvoltage control.

Principal dimensions of the outfit are:—Wheelbase of tractor, 8 ft.; overall length of tractor and semi-trailer, 14 ft. 61 in.; overall width, 6 ft. 5 in The designed gross laden weight is 10 tons. Early delivery can be obtained from Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd., Basingstoke.
