• Fares increases throughout Scottish Bus Group companies became operative on Sunday. following authorization by the Traffic Commissioners in Perth last week. Objectors asking why the increases could not have been withheld pending the availability, possibly next month, of the full accounts for 1970, were told by Mr W. M. Little, SBG chairman: "We would have run out of cash." The new fares represent a percentage increase of from 29 to 44 per cent, the present 5d fare becoming 3p and the Is Id rising to 7p.
Tenand 12-journey tickets will increase by at least 25 per cent and scholars' tickets will also be affected.
Fears have been expressed in Scotland that the increases will cause an alarming drop in the number of passengers.
