• East Transportation of Stallingborough near Immingham is replacing its ageing 3+3 artics with eight of Dennison's latest light sliding skeletal trailers and 12 new tractive units. The triaxle trailers tare out at 4.68 tonnes apiece to offset some of the sleepercab 6x2s' 7.5 tonnes.
Dennison's redesigned chassis, which can accept 20ft, 30ft, 40ft or full 13.6m intermodal containers, uses lighter high-grade steels giving a half-tonne saving over its existing design.
East Trans is trimming a further 100kg by deleting the Mentor (RO-R) LM9000/Flexair running gear's air lift. Top and bottom rails are reduced at the front and slimmer sections are used for the sliding inner frame. There's also a new roller arrangement that enables the securing pins, rollers or phosphor-bronze bushes to be removed from inside the chassis—previously the frames had to be separated. Changes at the back of the trailers include reduced box sections, new hinged twist-lock bolsters, tail-light surrounds and a tubular extendible bumper.
