The National Statistics Office reports that expenditure on acquisitions in the UK by foreign companies increased from £2.9bn in the third quarter of 2003 to E3.5bn in the fourth.
However, expenditure on acquisitions abroad by UK companies fell from E2.6bn in the third quarter to £1.6bn in the fourth. Logistics firms have traditionally been big overseas spenders with the likes of Exel at the forefront of this.
