A large number of hauliers and big own-account fleet operators use anti-siphon devices. Among the major high-street retailers, Argos, Sainsbury's, Somerfield, and Tesco all fit them to their fleets. Local authorities include Northumberland County Council and Newcastle City Council, while major hauliers include Knights of Old, Owens Road Services and Marshal's of Butterwick. Other names using them include TNT Logistics, UPS and BOC, all of which use TruckProtects device.
Tesco, which uses the TISS device, first fitted its 1,9C0-truck fleet in 2003, says TISS managing director Ryan Wholey.
He adds that the firm's customers' fitting of the Impregnable device reflects not only the intention to stop siphoning, but also efforts to prevent diesel spills.
