"Our main job is the delivery of gifts of all kinds to our 60 redemption shops. From the High Wycombe depot, and another in Lancashire, we cover the whole country. Our turnover here is a million poundsworth of goods every seven weeks—with this kind of money involved you can see that reliable deliveries are vital.
"The full Green Shield fleet comprises 500 Ford trucks, Transit vans and cars. Fr o m t hi s depot we operate about one-third of our fleet including 25 D600 artics. These artics handle 40 Scammell-Bonallack trailers with automatic couplings. In just over two years they've clocked up something like 1,200,000 miles between them. We've had just three breakdowns that you might consider major. That'll give you some idea how reliable these Fords are.
It's really paid us to standardise on Ford "Before we switched to Ford, we were operating a mixed fleet of rigid box vans with integral cabs. Servicing and parts supply was a problem, as was the varied service knowledge required.
"A standardised fleet of artics was the obvious answer; the question was: which make ? We considered several and, as a result of previous experience, chose Fo going exclusively for the D600 artic.
