IVECO IS introducing a new low-price specification of its 7.5-tonne GVW Eurocargo, designed to counter the challenge of lighter and cheaper 7.5-tonners from Isuzu and Fuso.
The 75E14 model goes on sale next month and supplements the current 7.5-tonne Eurocargo range. The range previously started with the 75E16, which has a power rating of 158hp.
Now the same four-cylinder, 3.9-litre Tector engine has been down-rated to 138hp at 2,700rpm in the 75E14. Peak torque is lower, down from 530Nm to 460Nm, developed at 1,200rpm-2,100rpm.
Since 2008, all Eurocargos have included a ZF AS Tronic automated six-speed gearbox as part of the standard specification. But the 75E14 has the earlier ZF five-speed manual gearbox, which has a direct-drive fourth ratio and overdrive fifth. In return for accepting a lower specification, operators will see a substantial cost saving, as the 75E14 will cost £1,600 less than the 75E16. Iveco UK product director Martin Flach says: “The 75E14 will be ideal for those who don’t cover long distances and don’t need 160hp,” he says.
Although the Eurocargo was the second most popular 7.5-tonner in the UK (behind Daf’s LF45) in 2011, its market share was down to 18.3%.
