In spite of a major hike in average mileage and age, used van prices at Manheim Remarketing finished the year down by only 1.3%
Words: Kevin Swallow
DESPITE AN 18% increase in average age and a 17% hike in average mileage, used van prices at Manheim Remarketing only fell 1.3% through 2011.
Average values fnished the year at £4,013 even though average age was up nine months to 59 and average mileage increased by 11,889 miles to 82,445.
Director of CVs James Davis says it is the well-observed law of supply and demand that has conspired to drive average sale values higher. “To see values holding up in light of a different product mix is an indictment of the strength of the wholesale van marketplace.
“Never before has such a swing in age and mileage been observed in such a short period.
“I do, however, urge caution into 2012. I expect conversion rates to bounce back post seasonality – unless retail demand improves, wholesale values and demand for duplicate and damaged stock will continue at levels observed from the middle of last year,” he says. “Every bid counts.” ■
