"RED AND WHITE" IN BIG WELSH MERGER
QNE of the biggest mergers of bus undertakings in South Wales has, it is understood, now been effected by Red and White Services, Ltd., Chepstow, which is absorbing the 90 services, centred on Swansea, of D. Bassett and Sons (Gorseinon), Ltd., Gorseinon.
The Bassett routes run from Swansea to Llanelly and Carmarthen, and from Swansea northward to the indus trial valleys. They are some of the oldest in Wales, founded by the late Mr. D. Bassett, and, since his death, continued by his sons.
The Red and White company's London-South Wales service, via' Gloucester, extends as far as Swansea, and will, it is understood, now be continued by the use of the acquired Bassett service to Carmarthen, with connections to West Wales, including Tenby, Haverfordwest and Fishguard, and to connect with the other main services at Aberystwyth.
" Arrangements," said to be more comprehensive than the usual running agreements, are also understood to have been effected with other companies in various districts of South Wales.
In the present deal the whole of the share capital of D. Bassett and Sons (Gorseinon), Ltd., is to pass to Red and White Services, Ltd.
COMPANY-MUNICIPAL CO-OPERATION SPREADING.
THE tendency towards increased cooperation between municipal-transport undertakings and bus companies in Yorkshire is illustrated by an application to the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners by Doncaster Corporation for sanction for several proposed new services, to be operated jointly with the Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd.
