• London Transport is to introduce 600 more one-man buses this year-250 of these buses will be on the roads in the next few months and another 350 are on order.
The plan got its "go-ahead on Monday when Transport and General Workers Union delegates voted 56 to 43 in favour of a new pay and productivity deal for 33,000 busmen. All the workers will get £1-a-week rises; one-man bus operators will get an extra lOs a week (CM last week),
It is probably the most important productivity deal to be accepted by busmen in this country. London Transport said: "This agreement could be a landmark for Britain."
Mr. Alan Thomson, TGWU bus secretary. said: "it means the reshaping plan for London buses has at last got off the ground. It will lead to higher earnings for the men."
