I The Vehicle Inspectorate has announced :hanges to the way brake testing is carried Jut at annual testing. From the beginning of ktober, where it is neither safe nor practical o use the load simulator, vehicles and trailers mist be presented for test laden to at least 30% of the design or UK plated GM, whichever S lower.
The principal vehicles requiring a load are: 1 Any multi-axle vehicle or trailer with a bogie Neight exceeding io,000kg.
I Three-axle tractors with rear air suspension, which must be coupled to a semi-traller
loaded so that the drive axle is close to its plated weight. Tractors converted from two to three axles must be laden if the new axle's braking force is related to drive axle load.
111 Any other vehicle or trailer on which a load simulator cannot be applied above the axles because of its construction (in the case of livestock carriers, livestock is not acceptable as a load).
A leaflet explaining the new system more fully will be available from Testing Stations, and details will also be given on the back of the appointment letter.
