QUARRY EQUIPMENTspedalist Hutchinson Engineering Services is planning to replace most of its fleet with Volvos, with its first purchases being two Volvo 11116-660 trucks with 8x4 tractor units:the vehicles will be used to transport a variety of quarrying and heavy construction plant, and are plated for operation at 150 tonnes GCW Another 10 Volvos are on order over the next 15 months bringing 75% of the 20-strong fleet to the marque.
The back up is good and the products excellent," says John Paine, transport manager. "They are far superior to anything else we've tried."
The new Fl-116s are equipped with 1-Shift automated gearboxes and T-ride heavy-duty rear suspension.There are 385/65 tyres on the front axles and 315/80s on the drive axles. All maintenance will he carried out by Hartshorne at Alfreton on a two-year contract.
Paine says: "We try to keep to 'one driver, one truck', and the drivers seem pleased with their FH16-660s."
