E The United Pallet Network (UK) says it has seen 277% growth in the number of pallets moved over the past year.
Speaking at the group's second annual conference last weekend, managing director Andrew Spencer said he is delighted with the progress it has made since its launch in 2001, and moving from its original base in Nottinghamshire to its new hub in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
"In the year to May 2003 the group moved a total of 229,441 pallets, up from only 82,813 in the same period a year earlier. We are well on the way to fulfillIng our target of 2,000 pallets a night and boosting our membership from 51to 60 companies by the end of the year."
It also announced a raft of initiatives aimed at boosting the efficiency of the network, including a local delivery rate, an internal mailbag and the third phase of its website.
