AN attempt by Colchester Corporation to divert coaches around the by -pass and to prevent the picking up and setting down of passengers in the centre of the town failed before the Eastern Licensing Authority at Colchester last week.
The operators concerned were George Ewer and Co., Ltd., the Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd. The corporation's proposal was originally made two years ago, but was allowed to rest in abeyance until recently. It was alleged that coaches caused traffic congestion.
The operators' case was that cars were allowed to park indefinitely without hindrance in the centre of the town and that coaches did not contribute to congestion.
