• American hauliers have traditionally bought "component" trucks, unlike European operators who have accepted integrated drivelines. However, Gustafson reports that as the truck makers strike more strategic alliances with engine manufacturers, "I see more and more customers moving towards what I would call a quasi-integrated concept. It's not a total integrated driveline of an engine, transmission and an axle, but it is engine and vehicles and electronic management systems which are all developed together." Right now some 30% of all Os sold in the US have the Volvo 012 engine fitted and UNA intends to increase that .
