With reference to your letter from RJ Lister (CV/ 26 Feb-4 Mar), I know how he feels. 1 hive been an Fl(iV driver with experience of the UK and Europe for 12 yeaN.I have recently retrained and obtained my natioiraliinternational CPC, gained computer skills and attended a 10-day Health & Safety course—all to further my career in transport.
I have applied for dozens of transport-related positions, from transport manager to traffic planner, and have sent countless Us. I have had four interviews, but I always get "sorry, but no". It seems companies decide to go for school-leavers to pay a low wage.
Surely the experience I and other drivers have to offer is worth a lot more to the industry than a schoolleaven Or is it a case of a narrowing gap between management and drivers with lots of experience? Are we threatening their position? Mark Edwards, Clacton-m-Sea, Essex.
