I'VE BEEN concerned for some time now with goods vehicles in excess of 3,500kg to 7,500kg having to be restricted to 90km/h.
I can fully understand why similar-sized passenger vehicles are set at 100km/h, but, having driven the heavier Sprinter-size vans and been stuck between heavier trucks at 90km/h, it's no fun and can he very scary, particularly with a low driving position!
If you ease off to allow a decent space from the vehicle in front, you end up with another in your mirrors. Not a healthy vision.
Understandably, the heavier trucks would prefer you not being in their way when trying to keep up momentum on their limiter.
Why this nonsensical rule was brought in for these vehicles, I'll never know. They should be treated the same as similar-weight passenger vehicles and allow the limiter to be set at 100km/h, allowing them to keep out of the larger trucks' way, at least for safety. I'll be interested to hear others' views on this subject.
