Its difficult to establish how spending the best part of £10.000 on a Multi Function Coupling (MFC) system can be clawed back against the manual version. Financially, you have to assess the number of changes and the amount of wear and tear a manual version will get. Having to replace moving parts is an add-on cost.
MFC offers a get-out clause here and allows the driver a hassle-free coupling experience. With only the cap on a universal joint to adjust, its service life should last as long as the universal joint, as there are no moving parts.
If that doesn't swing the argument then perhaps addressing health and safety might with the driver not having to manually disconnect the trailer.
Ultimately, the decision is both financial and operational if you can justify its purchase, it will make the coupling process easier and quicker.
And given the cost of a serious or fatal coupling accident, the H&S factor may tip the balance to MFC.
