DW Weaver Group operates around 150 articulated and rigid trucks. In addition to being one of the UK's largest independent milk hauliers, the DW Weaver Group encompasses the AJ Weaver fleet of 15 rigid tipper trucks, six wheelers and eightwheelers, used mainly to carry aggregates to farms and other businesses in the vicinity.
Weaver's Training Manager Graham Machin, completed the SAFED two-day course to become a SAFED instructor and, since then, Mr Machin has SAFED-trained 30 Weaver drivers.
Machin was impressed by the scale of the fuel savings that can result from SAFED training, and the knock-on benefits, such as lower vehicle maintenance costs and better communication between drivers and managers. "Our tachograph charts are analysed daily. On some of our tipper work, a truck can use about 30 litres of diesel a day, Following SAFED training, some drivers are using between six and eight litres less a day" says Machin. "Drivers are also being educated to take better care of their vehicles, while managers even those who don't drive trucks are gaining a better understanding of what a driver's job involves."
