• Mersey Docks and Harbour Company plans to start twice daily sailings between Sheerness and Vlissingen, it announced just clays before Olau Line discontinued its passenger/freight service last weekend. MDHC plans a seven-day-a-week service for 55 trailers, including 12 driver-accompanied vehicles, on each crossing.
Sally Line launched a freight-only daily service between Ramsgate to Vlissingen in March with capacity for 52 drivers and trailers each sailing. Sally Line plans to put a second ship on the route in June, increasing capacity by 12 drivers and 71 trailers. Olau Line withdrew its two vessels from the route after nearly 20 years, because it could not agree with the German unions over its workforce's pay (CM 24-30 March).
