SWEDISH TRUCK manufacturer Scania has recently netted three big sales in the Netherlands.
It has sold 200 Euro 4-engined R Series tractors to Dutch operator Heisterkamp: another 100 tractors to De Rijke; and 70 to one of the biggest fleets in Holland — Vos Logistics.
The Vos deal is particularly significant, being seen as a boost to Scania's plans for Euro-4 engines.
Vos Logistics MD Wim Vos says he opted for Scania because of its solution to the Euro-4 emission targets. Like MAN, it is using Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The other manufacturers are using Selective Catalytic Reduction which requires the use of the urea additive AdBlue.
Vos points out that SCR entails the cost, time and hassle of filling up with AdBlue solution. He adds that the weight of the AdBlue tank and its contents will also eat into payload.
