A WEST WALES skip hire operator has lost his bid for a substantive 0-licence. Paul Griffiths, trading as Matthew Skip Hire, continued to operate after interim authority had been refused at a public inquiry and his vehicle was impounded last November.
Traffic examiner William Rees told Welsh Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alan Jenkins that a vehicle belonging to Pontardawe-based Paul Griffiths had been stopped in a roadside check at Velindre. Its driver,AndrewJones, claimed he was working for the day on a casual basis, having been instructed by Griffiths, who was also present.
The vehicle had no current excise licence or 0licence identity disc displayed.
When this was pointed out to him. Griffiths had replied:"No conunent." He added that he was awaiting his operator's licence.
When Griffiths was reminded that his application for an interim licence had been refused at a public inquiry he had nothing to say.
The DTC decided that Griffiths was not a fit and proper person to hold an 0-licence because he had deliberately used the vehicle after interim authority had been refused. In addition to this there was a lack of financial information.
