Back in 2007, CM tested its first EGR Euro-4 truck, built by MAN. But what is it worth today?

When Euro-3 was banished from the production lines of all European truck manufacturers in May 2006, two-thirds of the OEMs went for selective catalytic reduction (SCR).
This approach meant AdBlue was required to meet the new emission levels. Truck builders favouring SCR went a step further and added Euro-5 as an option before it became mandatory. MAN and Scania (not forgetting Hino) developed engines using exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and their progress fell in line with the EU’s mandates.
Debate was rough and tough, and when the respective titles were split at the 1,000 Mile Test (MAN won the 1,000 Mile Test at 44 tonnes and Mercedes-Benz captured the 40-tonne title with its Euro-5 Axor), divided opinion only intensified. ■
