ESSEX COMPANY BELLE Trailers and Italian manufacturer Rolfo have unveiled the BelleRolfo Ego: the pair’s jointly developed 11-car transporter trailer.
The Ego marks the largest automotive payload available in the Rolfo range, topping its 10-car Pegasus. It is capable of handling 11 Ford Mondeo-sized cars or three Sprintersized vans.
It has a 38-tonne to 44-tonne gross combination weight, with a 3.7-tonne unladen body weight and a 10.8-tonne unladen trailer weight. Its overall combination length is 18.75m, with the trailer coming in at 12.5m and the truck at 6.2m.
It also has a fully galvanized chassis, which Rolfo says will save operators £25,000 in refurb costs over its life-span of five years, meaning there is no need for re-spraying throughout the vehicle’s life.
Unirolfo UK area manager Davide Sobrino says the trailer was developed in partnership with automotive operators, who were involved from the design phase.
He believes operators in the transporter sector are ready to invest in their fleets after two lean years where trailer lifespans were extended when car volumes shrank.
“Margins in this sector are squeezed so much some operators were running on zero – so every extra car is pure profit,” he says.
