• Police have unearthed what they believe are "millions of stolen truck parts" following a raid on a yard in the North Bristol area.
The search uncovered a stolen trailer, two donkey engines, 16 wheel rims, and a large number of tyres and truck parts.
Bristol police want to hear from any operators who have lost property which can be identified by serial numbers and the like. Operators should phone detective constable Eagan on (0272) 565333. 0 Thefts of lorries in the London and the Home Counties now average two a day, say detectives of the Number Six Regional Crime Squad. The Confidential Hotline (0932222634) run by the squad (CM 5-11 November) has already produced a number of useful calls, but the police want to encourage all operators with suspicions about truck thefts to phone them. Callers do not need to leave their names, and identities can be protected. Insurance companies often pay rewards for information received which leads to the recovery of stolen parts.
