• South Derby-based coal haulier Griff Evans expects to close his three-and-a-half year old business this week, making himself and two other drivers redundant.
Most of Evans' work originated from British Coal's Trentham Colliery, one of the 10 pits originally earmarked for immediate closure. Although the site has been given a temporary reprieve, work from Evans' contractor, Swadlingcote Specialist Tipping Services, has also dried up (CM 22-28 Oct).
Evans, who founded his busi ness with redundancy from his former job as a British Coal driver, is now considering selling his three tippers and replacing them with an artic.
