-r,-• Llanerynmair, Powys-based EW Jones & Son was given a final warning about maintenance standards after a roadside check revealed a trailer to have a , serious brake defect and it was given an immediate prohibition. The firm appeared at a Cardiff disciplinary inquiry before South Wales Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alun Jenkins, who was told the prohibition imposed on the trailer had been endorsed as showing a significant maintenance failure.
However, a subsequent maintenance investigation had not revealed any defects in the remainder of the firm's vehicles and trailers. Jenkins also heard there was no proper driver defect reporting system.
Indicating he felt no action was required other than to issue the firm with a final warning, Jenkins said EW Jones would have to implement a proper written driver's nil daily defect reporting system. Such a system concentrated the mind, said Jenkins.
