• Craven Tasker is launching 13.35m dry-freight semitrailers capable of carrying 26 metric pallets, that can be coupled to existing 3.4m tractive units when longer 16.5m artics become legal on 1 January next year.
A refrigerated version, currently in build, will feature a curved front bulkhead and undermount freezer unit. Taskers' new range has been introduced for those operators which are unable to replace all their tractors and trailers immediately.
More than 500 hauliers and dealers gathered at Donnington Park last week to inspect the dry freight prototype, which has a 13.25m deck length and a 1.35m king pin position.
With its 8m pin-to-centre axle span, the trailer will couple to most current 3.4m two and three-axled tractors, while complying with EC inner and outer turning circle limits of 5.3m and 12.5m.
Tasker also exhibited a fulllength 13.6m semi-trailers with 1.6m pin, coupled to a Danishregistered Volvo FIO on a 3.8m wheelbase alongside two of its 13.35m interim trailers, to demonstrate that each can take 26 pallets.
