1 LESIDE BULK AND container haulier Bulmers Logistics is expanding its fleet and retiring its distinctive bonneted Scania T-eabbed tractor units.
The T-cabs raised the firm's profile, says MD Johnathan Bulmer, but he has a strict replacement policy for the 200truck fleet: We try to rotate our vehicles at an average of three years, but we'll keep one of the Tcabs for nostalgia."
The fleet enlargement is part of the company's plan for "strategic growth and development" that is scheduled to expand the fleet to 300 trucks by September 2007. Last month 25 Scania R-Series
420s joined the fleet. "We've had very good fuel results on the 420s, and we've got a good back-to-back package with them," says Bulmer. The Scanias are joined by 14 Daf XF 480s, 11 Renault Premiums and four Volvo FHI3s.lhe Scanias,
Renaults and Volvos are on contract hire but the Dafs have been bought outright — partly, says Bulmer, for their"strong residual values".
Bulmers Logistics hauls containers from Teesport, Hull and Immingham.
