The future of more than 70 drivers looks uncertain after Barrow-In-Furness haulier Brady Distribution called in administrators. Earlier this week PricewaterhouseCoopers
PWG) was appointed by principal director Bob Brady. Brady is one of Cumbria's biggest hauliers: at one time it ran about 150 trucks and currently operates about 70.
The company is thought to have lost several contracts recently, including one with paper manufacturer Kimberly Clark.
A spokeswoman for the administrators says the company's warehousing operation will be sold but she described the future for the transport operation as "bleak".
Chemicals firm Albright & Wilson. which was one of Brady's largest customers, has confirmed it is no longer using the company. A year ago Brady bought out Northwich-based chemicals distribution firm James Caffery & Son and changed its fleet to feature Brady's distinctive red livery.
Tibbett & Britten has bought Glasgowbased international haulier Arbuckle, Smith & Co. All 175 workers have been retained.
